One County, Two Kinds Of Slab

Andrews County splits neatly into two kinds of work. In town there are residential garages and the small commercial buildings along the main routes. Outside it there is ranch country and oil-services facilities, and the slabs out there were poured for equipment rather than for looks. Both sit on the same thin caliche ground, and both give a coating the same problem: fine pale dust that settles into the pores of bare concrete and stops anything from bonding to it.

We diamond grind every floor in this county rather than acid etch. Grinding cuts through the dust and the laitance and leaves a profile the primer can key into. On a ranch shop that has had diesel and hydraulic fluid soaking into it for years, that grind also pulls the contaminated top layer off, which is the only honest way to coat a slab like that. Skipping it saves half a day and costs the floor.

Distance is the other thing that shapes work out here. Frankel City and Florey are small, and the ranch addresses between them are long drives on county roads. We mobilize once and do everything on a property in the same trip, which is why a house garage and a detached workshop usually get quoted together. Two separate mobilizations to the same address is a cost we would rather not pass on.

Facility work follows the production schedule, not ours. Field-service shops and equipment bays cannot go down for a week, so we phase those installs, coat in halves, and work around shift changes. That gets settled at the walkthrough and written into the scope, along with the certificates of insurance and safety documentation an operator needs before a crew comes through the gate.
