Outdoor Concrete Coatings For West Texas Weather

UV-resistant coating systems for any exterior concrete surface, from pool decks to walkways to commercial entries. Polyaspartic-based systems engineered for direct sun, summer heat, and West Texas thermal cycling.

About Outdoor Coatings

What Is Outdoor Coatings?

Outdoor concrete coatings are a different engineering problem than indoor coatings. The system has to handle direct UV exposure (yellows standard epoxy in months), thermal cycling (summer surface temperatures over 140 degrees, winter cycles into freeze territory), wet-weather exposure (UV plus moisture is the worst case for resin systems), and the daily reality that outdoor concrete sees more abuse than most indoor floors.

Steadfast specs polyaspartic-based outdoor coatings (UV-stable, thermal-tolerant, will not yellow) for all exterior applications. The system is typically a basecoat with optional flake or color blend, and a UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat with anti-slip aggregate. Standard exterior installs include driveways, patios, pool decks, walkways, commercial entries, and any concrete surface that sees direct sun. The same system at scale handles commercial and HOA exterior coating projects.

Where It Fits

Common Outdoor Coatings Applications

Steadfast installs outdoor coating systems across the Permian Basin and broader West Texas. Common applications include the following, but the right system depends on the specific environment, traffic load, and any chemical or impact exposure.

Pool Decks

Slip-resistant pool surrounds with cooler-than-bare-concrete surface temperature.

Walkways & Sidewalks

Residential and commercial walkways needing durability and visual upgrade.

Commercial Entries

Storefront approaches, restaurant entries, and retail sidewalks with heavy foot traffic.

HOA Common Areas

Community walkways, common-area concrete, and shared exterior surfaces requiring uniform appearance.

Outdoor Sports Surfaces

Tennis court coatings, sport court bases, and recreational concrete needing slip resistance.

Public Plazas & Courtyards

Civic and commercial plaza coatings with heavy foot traffic and weather exposure.

Why Steadfast For Outdoor Coatings

Three Things That Set This Install Apart

01

UV-Stable Polyaspartic Resin

Epoxy yellows under UV exposure within months. Polyaspartic stays color-true for the life of the coating. For outdoor applications, polyaspartic is the only practical resin choice.

02

Designed For West Texas Thermal Cycling

Surface temperatures from 0 to 160 degrees over the course of a year. The polyaspartic system handles the full range without cracking, blistering, or losing adhesion.

03

Anti-Slip Aggregate Standard

Every outdoor install includes an anti-slip aggregate broadcast into the topcoat. Important for wet-weather safety on walkways, pool decks, and any exterior foot-traffic surface.

FAQ

Outdoor Coatings Common Questions

Can outdoor coatings handle direct West Texas summer sun?

Yes. Polyaspartic is UV-stable and handles surface temperatures into the 160s during peak summer afternoons. The cured coating does not soften, blister, or degrade under heat. We schedule installs in cooler windows but the cured system handles whatever the climate delivers.

How long do outdoor coatings last?

5 to 10 years depending on traffic, exposure, and cleaning. The basecoat lasts indefinitely once bonded. What wears over time is the topcoat under foot traffic, vehicle traffic, and sunlight. Re-coating the topcoat every 5 to 7 years extends life significantly.

What’s the difference between outdoor and indoor coating systems?

Resin choice, primarily. Indoor systems can use epoxy throughout (cheaper, deeper concrete penetration). Outdoor systems must use polyaspartic or other UV-stable chemistry for the topcoat (and often basecoat) to handle sun exposure. Outdoor systems also include anti-slip aggregate as standard, where indoor is optional.

Will the coating crack if my concrete moves?

Concrete moves with seasonal temperature changes, and the coating moves with it for hairline cracking. Significant structural cracking (1/8 inch or wider) telegraphs through the coating. We assess existing cracking during the quote and recommend joint repair or expansion-joint construction as needed.

Can outdoor coatings be installed year-round?

Yes, in most weather. Polyaspartic cures correctly down to about 30 degrees Fahrenheit. We install in spring, summer, and fall as standard windows; winter installs are possible on heated days. We avoid installs in active rain or freeze conditions.

How does a coated patio compare to acid-stained concrete?

Acid staining colors the concrete itself; coatings sit on top. Acid staining is more permanent but limited in color range. Coatings offer wider color options, better stain resistance, and faster install. For most West Texas patio projects, coatings are the better choice.
