How long does a garage floor coating last?
Most flake garage installs hit the 15-year warranty mark with minor topcoat refresh at year 8 to 10. Metallic systems last similarly with the polyaspartic topcoat protecting the metallic layer. The basecoat itself lasts indefinitely once bonded; what wears over time is the topcoat under tire and foot traffic.
What’s the difference between flake, metallic, and solid color?
Flake has multi-color vinyl chips broadcast into the basecoat for visual texture and slip resistance. Metallic uses metallic pigments for a marbled, decorative look (more expensive). Solid color is a single-color basecoat with clear topcoat (most affordable). Most West Texas garages choose flake.
Why do garage coatings fail with other companies?
Three reasons: bad concrete prep (using chemical etch instead of mechanical grind), wrong topcoat (using non-polyaspartic topcoats that can’t handle hot tire pickup), and rushed cure times. We control all three. That’s why we can offer a 15-year warranty when the industry standard is 1 to 5 years.
Do I need to clear out my garage for the install?
Yes, the floor needs to be empty for grinding and coating. We can help you schedule around storage logistics, and many clients use the install as the opportunity to declutter. If garage storage is a constraint, we can stage the install in halves so the garage is never fully empty.
Can you fix existing garage floor damage during the install?
Yes. Crack repair, pit fill, joint prep, and cove work are all standard prep options. Even badly damaged garage floors can be restored during prep. We assess the existing concrete during the quote and include any required repair in the written quote.
